    1987 Volga 3102 UPDATE

Ok so I made some room in the workshop. Then I sat down and had a think about all of this. Once my 87 goes in there, it likely won't come out for a while. And so before I do that I have decided that the first order of business should be to get the title and registration stuff done. To that end, I called the Travis County Sherriff's Office this morning, just as I did some 5 years ago (hah!). They still do the inspections, but apparently they don't charge the $40 fee any longer. Anyway, no one was around, so I left a message. Hopefully they'll call back within the next couple of days. I'll let ya'll know what develops from here...

    1987 3102 UPDATE

During the past couple of weeks I have made a couple of attempts to get the new 3102 inspected by law enforcement. This is of course a requirement prior to applying for a TEXAS title. Since I last did this in 2010, the Williamson County Sheriff's office has begun performing 68-A inspections, so I no longer needed to drive all the way to Manor, TEXAS to the Travis County Sheriff's office in order to complete the 68-A. Way cool. Instead, a detective based in Georgetown, TEXAS also performs these inspections, which aren't only for cars, but also for trailers, etc. Anyway, the new 3102 passed its police inspection this past Wednesday, so it is now legal to title in the state of TEXAS. I won't bother with a state inspection (safety, emissions) because I don't plan on keeping the car as-is. As mentioned in the restoration thread, it is in simply horrible condition, so I plan on doing some type of body exchange. Therefore I will apply for a "Title only" and not worry about registration.

Attached is a picture of the 3102 on the trailer while waiting for the detective to take a look at it.
