    Madness...
    if a 21 can't handle a V8, how can a motorbike

Hmmmmm...ok I'll play: why is it that an M21 cannot handle a V8? Mounts? I haven't been up-close to one yet, but there seems like there would be enough space in the engine bay...

For the KGB, and known as a M23, they made over 600 of them with a Chaika 5.52 litre V8 fitted
Because of the added weight at the front, the handling was woeful.
I believe the braking was also no match for the extra HP & weight.

Made in 1962, they are a rare find these days

Ah ok, that makes more sense. I was limiting my scope of thought to issues associated with fitment, specifically WRT clearances when really the issue was a more practical one. I seem to recall Dmitri's comments about his handling in reference to a "knabel" (boat), so it makes sense. Thanks for the explanation.

M23 came from the factory with a 200kg metal plate in the trunk to compensate the weight of the engine upfront. Handling was not perfect, but KGB did not complain.
M23 was made from 1962 unil 1969, and then KGB had a V8 version of M24.
nowdays there are quite a few homemade projects with modern foreign V6 and V8 in M21 body, and also with V8 from Chaika, GAZ and ZIL trucks.
just like in american muscle-car, handling is not a priority there.
but the M21 body can handle it for sure!

today we participated in a Domenick Spadaro memorial rally.
he was a prominent european car mechanic in White Plains, NY.
after he passed away his family and his customers organaized this annual event to remember him.
we drove 50 miles to get to this beautiful farm upstate NY where about 70 cars gathered, mostly italian.
we all had breakfast and then we drove 100 kilometers (60 miles) on scenic twisty local roads.
it was fantastic! afterwards everyone gathered at the farm for lunch while looking at our cars.
    great event, great people.
